"Awake to a New Aurora" Mural A Success

Just under a month ago, a collective of area artists and groups, including Seattle Mural Art, Sustainable Green Lake and Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors, installed a colorful mural in a vacant storefront at 7615 Aurora Avenue in an attempt to help people, "envision Aurora as a street full of thriving businesses and shoppers – one with a vibrant business center that attracts local residents to walk and bike to stores and restaurants for their weekly shopping and entertainment."

Not only was the project an attempt to draw attention to Aurora businesses, it was also an effort to assist an area property owner in attracting potential tenants to the vacant space, formerly used as a body piercing parlor.

And it seems to have worked.

On Sunday afternoon the mural panels were removed from the windows to make way for the work crew that will be preparing the space for its next purpose - a barber shop.

Now the mural project team will be on the lookout for two potential mural sites - a site for the second mural in the project, but also a follow-up site for this first mural.
